Theater Arts Perfect fit for Ian

Over the last year Ian has developed a love for theater arts. Recently he had the wonderful opportunity to travel with his theater group to London so that they could perform Romeo & Juliet at a Shakespearean Festival. Read about his experience.

What draws you to theater arts?

I was drawn to theater so that I could get out of my shell. Before I joined theater I didn’t express myself the way I do now, theater changed me as a person, for the better.

What do you enjoy about acting?

I feel that it’s a great way to show a side of you others didn’t think you had, it’s a way to express yourself and who you truly are.

You had a chance to go to London recently, what was the reason for that?

I went to London with my cast to perform Romeo and Juliet at the Shakespeare schools festival, as the only American school invited to attend. We performed in two theaters while we were there. (https://sites.google.com/a/topamail.com/theaterandcompany/home/willpower)

Did you enjoy your experience there?

I really enjoyed my time there. I had the time of my life, and made some bonds with my fellow cast that I know cannot be broken. After we performed in London we traveled to Italy and France where we visited Milan, Verona and Paris. While in Verona, we visited casa de Juliet (Juliet’s House) where we were able to act out scenes from the play on the streets of Verona.

What other things to you like to do besides performing?

I enjoy Drawing, and playing the piano. I have been learning Pachelbel’s Cannon in D, I have it mostly down now. I am just like any other kid and I like to play Halo and Destiny on my weekends.

What are some of your favorite classes at Odyssey Prep?

Obviously, I enjoy my theater arts class, but I also really enjoy math.

Ian is an eighth grader at Odyssey Prep.
