STA Seventh Grader, Luke Rehl, Talks Sports and Volunteering

Luke is a wonderful young man! He is academically and athletically strong, but more important he is a young man of virtue and character. Luke is well known for being a sports fanatic! He is proud to be a member of the St. Thomas basketball team and was honored to be named MVP of the seventh grade St. Thomas flag football team. He looks forward to representing St. Thomas in the Knights of Columbus State Free Throw Championship! Luke is also a member of the Biltmore Central Boys Team Charity League where he has fed those in need in downtown Phoenix, cleaned up a local park and worked at a local food bank to name a few activities. In his free time Luke enjoys watching college sports, jumping on the trampoline with his younger brothers and sister, family dinners, playing video games with friends and reading non-fiction books.

Q. Can you tell us about your basketball and football teams?
A. This year I had the privilege to play on a school team for the first time. It was a great way for me to get to know my classmates as I just transferred to STA this year. I have also played tackle football for the past two years on Phoenix Storm as a wide receiver, kicker and defensive end. Last season we went 8-3 and made it to the state semifinals. I recently joined a new basketball club in central Phoenix.
I have enjoyed the challenge of being able to play up with the eighth grade team.

Q. What started your involvement in your volunteer work?
A. My mom and dad inspired me to pursue giving back to the community. I have enjoyed getting to volunteer with boys my age. I especially like going to St. Mary’s food bank with my classmates. I have also had the opportunity to feed those suffering homelessness at First Church UCC.

Q. Can you tell us about your recent trip to California?
A. We just returned from a three day trip to AstroCamp in Idyllwild, California where we learned about space and physics. We had fun building and launching a rocket out of a two liter soda bottle. I really enjoyed hanging out with my friends outside of school and getting to know them better. My favorite activity was ziplining.

Q. Can you tell us about your family?
A. I am the oldest of four. I have a brother Max in the sixth grade, a sister Stella in the third grade and my youngest brother Will is in preschool, all at St. Thomas the Apostle. It is the first year we are all at the same school and it is fun to see them during the day. We enjoy traveling, trying new restaurants and going to sporting events.
