STA Seventh Grader, HANNAH, Succeeds in Gymnastics

Hannah is an excellent student and is always kind to everyone. She is the first student to greet you on campus and a wonderful role model for our younger students. Hannah is very involved outside of school in gymnastics and does a variety of services in the community.

Q. How long have you been involved in gymnastics?

A. I was a self-taught gymnast for a very long time. Last year, I realized it was time for me to go to a real gym. After a few months, I got into the Excel Gymnastics Team at Impact Gymnastics Academy.

Q. What is your favorite gymnastics event?

A. My favorite gymnastics event is definitely floor. Floor is my favorite because I get to do amazing flips and dances. I also get to express my personality.

Q. What other sports do you play?

A. Away from gymnastics, I play volleyball and basketball for St. Thomas.

Q. Who is your favorite athlete?

A. My favorite athlete is Gabby Douglas. Gabby Douglas is a 2012 and 2016 gold medal gymnast. Gabby Douglas overcame a lot of difficulties and she is an inspiration.

Q. Can you tell us about your interest in video production?

A. When I was in the third grade I started to make and edit videos. I was able to figure out how to use a lot of editing systems to create actions videos. I made a lot of videos with my friends too. I still enjoy making and editing videos. I make videos of family trips, holidays, friends and gymnastics.

Q. You are also learning sign language can you tell us about that journey?

A. Recently, my school played a volleyball game against the AZ School for the Deaf and Blind. After seeing their athletes communicate with each other using sign language, one of my best friends and I thought it would be really cool to learn sign language. I’m beginning to teach myself by watching videos. I have learned how to say things like “Hello, my name is Hannah” and a lot of the letters in the alphabet. I hope to be able to be fluent in sign language by the time I get to high school, and I think it would be great to do volunteer work with kids or adults that might benefit from me knowing sign language.

Hannah Hudgins is a seventh grader at St. Thomas the Apostle.
