SJJ Eighth grader attends Air Camp USA

This summer, SSJ eighth grader Nate George had the opportunity to participate in a week-long adventure at Air Camp USA.

To be considered for this camp, students must apply and have a teacher recommendation. Over 300 students applied this year! Air Camp was held at the University of Dayton.

Nate was able to experience wind tunnels, he built gliders, and also got to try his hand at flight simulators! Students received a behind the scenes look at air traffic control and visited the Air Force base to see how their pilots trained.

On the last day of Air Camp, Nate got to pilot a plane! A co-pilot was seated next to him and was responsible for the take off and landing of the plane, and Nate was able to control the rest!

This once in a lifetime trip has really gotten Nate interested in the field of air traffic control. His dream job would be working for NASA in Houston.

When he’s not out flying planes, Nate keeps busy with Student Council, dance and water polo!

Nate is an eighth grader at Ss. Simon and Jude Cathedral School.
