Shelby Places 3rd at The Health Career Display Competition

Tell us about HOSA and the recent achievement you just received.

HOSA is organization that is part of the Sports Medicine program and helps students prepare for their future in healthcare.  I was recently awarded 3rd place out of 87 teams for the Health Career Display Competition at our State Leadership Conference.  This allows me to travel to Nationals this summer in Orlando, FL. At the State Leadership Conference I was voted into the position of AZ HOSA State Secretary for the 2014-15 term.

Tell us about Color Guard and your involvement with your team.

Color Guard is an activity that combines, dance, marching and the precision of flag, rifle and sabre.  It requires 100% commitment and participation from each member of the team.  My involvement with the team started out with me knowing nothing about it and it allowed me to grow as in individual, a leader and improve my confidence and enhanced my ability to achieve perfection in team work.

What is your favorite thing about your school? Tell us about a great teacher that you have (past or present).

My favorite thing about BUHS is the Sports Medicine program. I have two favorite teachers, Mrs White, the Band Director, and Mr. Jankowski, the Sports Medicine Teacher/HOSA Advisor.  They both have allowed me to grow into the leader I am today.

Tell us about the college you will be attending.

I will be attending Grand Canyon University in the fall for their excellent nursing program

What do you aspire to be when you grow up?

A nurse
