Matt had the opportunity to compete in Orlando, Florida for the NFL Flag Football National
Championship! He competed against the top 10 teams in the nation for his age division.
Q. Can you tell us about playing in the NFL tournament?
A. In the NFL tournament, there was a lot of good competition and great athletes. We competed against the top teams in the nation. We met some NFL players: Todd Gurley, Mark Ingram, and Tyreek Hill and some others. We were able to go to Disney World as a team which was pretty cool.
Q. Does playing on a travel team take up a lot of your time? How do you manage football with school and social life?
A. Football practices, games and tournaments take up a lot of my time in the evenings and weekends. I am able to keep up school work by doing homework before or after practices. I pretty much hang out with family and cousins on the weekends. I have a large family and a lot of cousins.
Q. Do you play football with your five siblings?
A. I have three brothers: Jared (11), James (9), and Sam (7) and we play football together a lot. We compete at pretty much everything. My two sisters don’t play football with us.
Q. Being the oldest of six, what impact (if any) do you hope to make in their lives?
A. I want to show them what hard work really means.
Q. What NFL player do you look up to most?
A. The NFL player I look up to the most is Larry Fitzgerald. I like him because he is a humble guy and not very prideful, also because he plays for the Cardinals.
Q. Will football be a part of your future?
A. I plan on playing in high school in the future- we’ll see… I really have my heart set on becoming part of a swat team!
