Q. How long have you been golfing and what do you love about the sport?
A. I started golfing when I was four years old and began playing competitively at the age of six. I compete in several tournaments a month – and weekly during the summer. I love the whole game, but especially enjoy that it’s an individual sport. I like seeing the results of my own efforts.
Q. Tell us about your schedule.
A. I usually practice six days a week during the school year, three or four of those days with my golf coach. During the summer, I am playing or practicing golf almost every day. Sometimes I am just working on my swing at the driving range and other times I am practicing at various golf courses. I am pretty familiar with the courses around here that host Junior Golf Tournaments but I still try to have a practice round the week before a tournament. I also study the holes online to develop a strategy.
Q. Do you have any goals for your future in golf?
A. Yes, I have several goals for my future in golf. These are the main three; To earn a scholarship to college to play golf. To compete and be successful in the US Amateur by the time I am 20. To have the opportunity to play on the PGA Tour.
Q. You are also part of the National Junior Honor Society and Student Council, what responsibilities does this require?
A. As a Student Council member, I am responsible for attending meetings (about once a week) to plan for the events we host at our school. Student Council members also lead the “Morning Message” at the start of each school day. Aside from attending meetings for NJHS, the main responsibility is to plan and carry out service work.
Q. What other things do you like to do outside of golf and school?
A. To be honest, school and golf keep me pretty busy. When I do have some down time, I love to hang out with my friends. We are all into sports – playing them and watching the pros. I also started playing the drums this year and have been able to play at mass.
