With over one-fifth of Arizonans living in a single parent household sometimes it’s hard for single parents to find community as easily as their coupled-up counterparts. This relatively new group is looking to change that and begin to build upon what some see as a weakness and make it a strength for both single parents and their children.
“PHX Single Parents Having Fun” is a group that puts together events that are either kid friendly or for adults only in order to begin to build that community here within Phoenix.
“I realized I only had one single-parent friend here in the Valley, so I wanted to build a community,” says Darrell White, founder of the group.
Since the group formed late last year the group has grown from a membership of 30 to well over 300. In that brief period, the group has done dozens of events for kids such as visits to the Children’s Museum, The Kids Obstacle Challenge, the APS Light Parade. As well as adult only events such as First Fridays, Game Nights and the most popular event – Karaoke.
If you know of a single parent looking to grow their community the group has both a meetup.com group: https://www.meetup.com/PHX-Single-Parents-Having-Fun/ and a new Facebook group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/PHXSingleParents – Or contact founder Darrell White at firstname.lastname@example.org
