Phoenix Country Day School Eighth Grader, Sebastian, Talks Golf and Boys Charity

Sebastian is an outstanding student who loves to learn. This year he enjoys history and is learning about the Civil War. Outside of the classroom, Sebastian is involved in a variety of activities.

He is an avid golfer and has participated on the PCDS middle school golf team the past three years. He was selected as the the golf team MVP two years in a row. He also plays for his club golf team. Sebastian is a great skier and also enjoys playing basketball with his brother and friends.

Sebastian enjoys music, speech and debate and giving his time to the community through Boys Team Charity. His favorite charity is Welcome to America, where he welcomes refugees to our country.

Q. Can you tell us about your involvement in Welcome to America?
A. I have volunteered for Welcome to America through an organization called Boys Team Charity. I really enjoy Welcome to America because I believe that everyone deserves a chance to become successful in the United States.

Q. Do you come from a musical family?
A. No, I do not come from a musical family but, my family has always enjoyed listening to music. I really enjoy listening to music, but also playing instruments such as the trumpet and piano.
Q. What’s your favorite golf spot?
A. My favorite spot to golf is Paradise Valley Country Club’s course. I mainly enjoy playing this course because of how well I know it, but I also love how the condition of the course is always amazing and the scenery on the course is breathtaking.

Q. Where did your love of History begin?
A. My love for history comes from my experiences from traveling but also in the classroom. In the last two years of school history, I have really enjoyed learning about the Revolutionary War and Civil War. I love history so much because we can learn from our mistakes in the past, and make better decisions in the future.

Q. Is there anything you hope to teach your little brother?
A. I hope to teach my little brother that you should try your best in everything and never give up. I feel that these two things can help you to become successful in life.

Q. What takeaways have you received from PCDS?
A. One very important thing I have learned from PCDS is their Golden Rule, “Treat others the way you want to be treated”. This motto has helped me greatly have compassion for others.
