Tara Dugel (Class of 2016), has been recruited for Varsity Squash at Columbia University in the City of New York. She has committed to Columbia, which is part of NCAA’s Ivy League. Although popular on the East coast, squash is a seldom known sport in the Southwest. It has been a challenge for Tara to find coaches and training partners. Additionally, since all the major squash tournaments are on the East Coast time away from her rigorous academic workload have added to the challenge. Nonetheless, Tara has played at the highest level and remains nationally ranked. She has also excelled in her studies and has been named a Scholar Athlete by US Squash in every eligible year. When asked how Tara started playing squash, she replied, “My dad shared his passion for the game with me when I was seven years old. I don’t think that my parents thought I would continue to play since there was no one else here to play with. I just loved the game and loved the competition, so I kept playing and got better and better. Columbia has always been my first choice and I am so thrilled to be recruited there.”
Tara is a senior at Phoenix Country Day School.
