Mia Qualifies for Olympic Development Program for Soccer

Mia just qualified for the Olympic training camp for soccer. She is an excellent student and an all-around wonderful young lady!

Q. You just qualified for Olympic Development Program for soccer, tell us about that?

A. This was the first year I was old enough to try out for the Olympic Development Program. I was really excited. There were hundreds of girls that showed up for tryouts. From the tryouts they formed a team of 18 girls made up of the top soccer players in Arizona. I was really thrilled and nervous to make the team and also be seen by other coaches and scouts that were there to evaluate us. Being selected for the ODP team is an opportunity to be invited to attend a regional camp. Playing on the ODP team was a great opportunity for me to be able to play with the best players in the state in order to get better.

Q. Who do you play soccer for? What position do you play? How long have you played?

A. I play soccer for the ’04 Scottsdale Soccer Blackhawks. The position I play is a center midfielder. I have been playing soccer for eight years.

Q. What is your favorite thing about Saint Thomas the Apostle?

A. My favorite thing about Saint Thomas the Apostle is the teachers and friends I’ve made at school. I also love St. Thomas’s activities, like the carnival, variety show, and ice cream social.

Q. What do you want to be when you grow up?

A. I want to be a pediatrician and a professional soccer player for the US women’s national team when I grow up.

Mia is a sixth grader at Saint Thomas the Apostle.
