Meet Vapid Radio, Rock Band Member from James Madison Preparatory

Finally! A music program that puts kids into their own rock band playing the music THEY want to play and performing live on stage several times a month.

Rock n Roll High School does that and more!

Rock n Roll High School’s Basic Program places young musicians, ages 10-19, into bands based on genre taste, experience & age. The Advanced Program mentors more experienced bands in performance, songwriting and business,

Both programs put the bands on the hottest stages in Phoenix at least once a month and, often, more.

For those requiring individual instruction, Rock n Roll High School has a referral network of the best music teachers in Phoenix.

This year, Rock n Roll High School is also sponsoring the PLUGGED IN music series that showcases youth rock bands representing schools from across Phoenix in concerts at the area’s hottest venues, such as Alice Cooperstown, Rebel Lounge, Hard Rock Café, Whiskey Row and many more.

After performing at “friendly” concerts, bands will ultimately compete at judged competitions that will determine the top bands and soloists who will perform at the grand finale PLUGGED IN show.

One such band is Vapid Radio, from Madison Prep in Tempe. With Nick Smith on drums, Sam Schlick on Guitar, Xander McCandless on Bass and Gabe Ostdiek on lead vocals, Vapid Radio formed about 1 ½ years ago and since then, have performed over 25 shows and recorded their first EP of all original songs. They work weekly at SER Studios in Chandler with instructor Matt Foos from the popular local band Fairy Bands.

Besides performing at PLUGGED IN, Vapid Radio has appeared on the radio and will be participating in the upcoming Alice Cooper Proof is in the Pudding competition. The winning band and soloist opens for Alice Cooper at Celebrity Theatre and several Rock n Roll High School performers have won this competition.

Categories to participate in PLUGGED IN are:

New Bands: For musicians who are not in a band, Rock n Roll High School’s trained instructors work with them weekly to develop their talents and prepare them for the stage.

Experienced Bands: Bands who have prior experience in live performance.

Junior High & late Elementary School students will compete in a separate category than High School and College.

PLUGGED IN also serves to unite the local music industry, serving as a vibrant network for private instructors, music stores, recording studios, record labels, merchandising and many others.
