Kierra talks Dance at Rancho Solano

Kierra Fox dances in the village scene of this season’s Snow Queen Ballet, the annual holiday feature at the Herberger Theatre. She’s a new sixth grader at Rancho Solano’s Middle and Upper School campus after attending primary school at the Lower School campus.

Q. How long have you been dancing?

A. I’ve been dancing for all of my life, but I love dancing at school.

Q. Are you in Mrs. Gamez’s dance class?

A. Yes, I love her as a teacher and her class is everything I was expecting and more. It’s especially helpful since I’m in sixth grade now and need to be learning more advanced techniques.

Q. Have your dance classes at Rancho improved your dancing in general?

A. Yes! When I first got the part in the Snow Queen, the practices were really hard because I didn’t know all of the Classical Ballet vocabulary. Like an échappé. I didn’t know the word or the move when performance practices began, but Mrs. Gamez not only showed the correct movement and how to do it best, but what it is and how the move evolved.

Q. So when did you get the part in the Snow Queen?

A. I got it in October, and I’m so happy the tryouts were around that time because it gave me a chance to really improve with my school dance classes.
