Kayla Talks Color Guard, Basketball, and Martial Arts

Q. You have participated in Color guard for two years at JMPS tell us more about that?

A. Color Guard is a lot of fun. Last year was my fist year and I came in a little late. I had a hard time learning the moves, but I began to love it very quickly. This year I am the color guard captain and there are five people on guard right now and one is a senior. I had a lot of fun creating the choreography. My sister helped me with one of the hard songs. We would preform at our football games and we had a blast.

Q. You recently joined JMPS basketball team how do you like it so far?

A. I love basketball games. I have so much fun. Because it is my first year ever doing basketball I had to learn new terms. I would have to ask, “what do you mean by…” or “what is…” and so on. It was hard but fun learning everything I know about basketball. I love our team and I am glad I was convinced to join.

Q. You have been earned your Junior Purple belt how did that feel? How long have you been practicing martial arts? Do you wish to go all the way to a black belt?

A. It felt really good to get my junior purple belt. It took a lot of work but I don’t regret it. I have been practicing martial arts for about three years. Yes I do want to become a black belt. It will take a long time and a lot of energy but I will get there eventually.

Q. You are also involved in a lot of others activities at your school tell us more bout that?

A. I am involved with the all school musical The Producers. I am having fun in the musical and I want to continue in my future years. I am also involved in Student Council. I am my homeroom representative. I am also the secretary. Yes it is hard balancing all of these activities but it is fun and it is worth it because it helps me manage my time.

Q. What has been your favorite memory so far this school year at JMPS?

A. One of my favorite memories at JMPS is homecoming/sprit week. We got to dress up all week and have contest against homerooms. And the football game was a lot of fun. That is my favorite memory at JMPS this year.

Kayla is an eighth grader at James Madison Preparatory School.
