Q. You played flag football for STA and placed 2nd in the CYAA tournament. Tell us more about that?
A. Playing flag football for my school was a very fun experience. In 5th, 6th, and 7th grade, we were the undefeated champions every year. We had two losses this year and placed second, but this year was the most fun for all of us. It is our last year, so I think it is better to have a blast together than to win and not have as much fun. We lost by two, but that last game was so close, and nerve-racking, but we all had so much fun.
Q. You just performed in your first “real show” playing Nick Jonas’ role in Disney’s Camp Rock Jr. How did that go? Were you nervous or stage freight? What was your favorite part of the whole experience?
A. I started acting at Desert Stages Theatre when I was six, when I first started summer camp. I have always loved trying new things, so I gave it a shot. It turned out that I loved singing and acting, and did it every year since. At Desert Stages, I auditioned for Nick Jonas in Camp Rock the Musical and got the part. It was such a fun process and the show turned out great! I was only nervous the first show, but that was the only time. My favorite part was singing the last song on closing night, and we couldn’t help breaking character and crying. I have grown so close with the cast and the Desert Stages atmosphere is amazing to be a part of.
Q. You recently started to play the guitar. Has it been easy to learn? What is your favorite song to play?
A. Six months ago, I found a guitar under my bed and I thought, maybe I should try to play? A week later, I had taught myself to play some popular songs that I heard on the radio. I have gotten a lot better since, and I am all self taught. My favorite song to play is “Granger Danger” from A Very Potter Musical. I love it because it is complicated and a playing it is a bit of a challenge. I also love playing all songs by Ed Sheeran.
Q. Sports, Acting, and Musician! Above all that you are an honor student, how do you manage to do it all? What do you do to make academics a priority?
A. Academics are my number one priority. I now focus all my attention to school and finishing my work In the past, I struggled with time organization. But now I set aside time for my homework and studying, and if I have time, then I can go outside, play with my dog, and practice guitar.
Q. When you do have spare time what do you like to do for fun?
A. For fun, I enjoy picking up an acoustic guitar and playing. I would prefer play guitar than play video games or go on my phone. I like to make catchy tunes/ rhythms on my guitar and then make them into songs by placing poems I write in them. It sort of turns into a song, but isn’t that long. Playing guitar makes me happy, and playing won’t ever get old.
