Isaac Tells Us About Competitive Dance Team

Isaac is a great kid, is very kind and has a genuine heart. He has a fantastic sense of humor and is extremely witty. Isaac is an extremely talented dancer and participates in contests around the valley.

Q. Tell us about the dance team you are on, how often do you practice and compete?

A. I’m on a dance team at A Time To Dance Performing Arts Studio. I go to the studio on Wednesdays from 4-8 and Fridays from 4:30-7:30. My older brother was on the team last year, and it looked like a lot of fun plus I wanted to know how it felt to perform. I thought maybe I was good enough to do it too so I went to the auditions over the summer. Me and my little sister both made two different teams. I made a large hip hop group and the production team which is really fun. Our production routine is based on the Sherlock Holmes story and my character is a police officer. We perform at six different competitions here in Arizona and then we go to nationals in California in July. We have already been to two competitions so far this season and our next one is called Bravo Dance Competition on March 8. At our first competition called Spotlight, my hip hop team was chosen as All Stars and invited to go to New York for a convention and competition. I don’t know if we will really go but it was a cool award. My little sister watches the show Dance Moms all the time so if you’ve ever watched it, that’s exactly what these competitions are like.

Q. Do you play any sports?

A. I don’t play on any sports teams right now, but I do want to play in a flag football league at my church, CCV. I just have to make sure it doesn’t get it the way of dance because I signed a contract once I made the team.

Q. What else do you like to do in your spare time?

A. I like to shoot hoops a lot. I am trying to get better at shooting and dribbling. I always try to get my whole family to come outside to play basketball together on Sundays after church. I also like to draw and play video games. I like to watch old movies like Red Dawn, Commando, War Games, and Ferris Bueller’s Day Off. My mom thinks it’s funny and cool and says some of the best movies are from the 80’s. I still think they are good even though the picture doesn’t look that great and sometimes the fighting doesn’t look realistic at all.

Q. How do you like your school? What are your favorite subjects?

A. I like Discover U a lot because we don’t usually get homework except if we don’t finish our work in class. I enjoy getting out of school early at 12:15 EVERY FRIDAY! I think we have some of the best teachers here and they do so many great things for us. I like how our principal, Ms. Nahrgang, is always nice and very loving towards me. She’s the best principal I’ve ever had because the one at my old school never even talked to me. My teacher, Ms. Brady, is cool and is lots of fun. I’ve really enjoyed being in her class and I hope she moves up to fifth grade next year. My favorite subject is Math and I like Science but only when we are doing an experiment.

Q. We heard you have a pretty great sense of humor, can you tell our readers a joke?

A. I like to think I’m a funny dude. I don’t tell jokes but I’m all about that bass. No treble….

Isaac is a fourth grader at Discover U.
