Horizon Honors high school Hosts Relay for Life

Horizon Honors High School hosted their annual Relay for Life event on March 8. Relay for Life is an organized, late night community fundraising walk for American Cancer Society. Teams of people camped out on a track field and members of each team took turns walking around the track. Food, games and activities provided entertainment and helped build camaraderie. There were over 136 participants and a committee of only 12 students organized all activities. This year’s event raised over $15,000 (the goal was $10,000.)

Highlights of the event included:
• The “Survivors Lap,” when all cancer survivors at the event took the first lap around the track, celebrating their victory over cancer.
• The luminaria ceremony, when candles were lit inside of personalized bags and were placed around the relay track as glowing tributes to those who’ve been affected by cancer.
