Every year Valley Metro holds an art contest for third graders in Maricopa County. The contest encourages students and families to use public transportation, and asks students to illustrate the light rail or a city bus. The theme this year was “This Is How We Roll,” and the winning contest entries are collected into a calendar for 2016. The calendar is distributed throughout the valley. Simis Elementary had many excellent entries this year, and was fortunate to have two winners whose artwork will be used in the calendar. Hannah Bolden and Elizabeth Blair were our winners, and Valley Metro will be visiting Simis and presenting an awards assembly.
