George Talks Drive, Chip, and Putt Contest and His Community Outreach

Q. Tell us about your recent Drive, Chip & Putt contest you were a part of?

A. I entered the local Drive, Chip, and Putt contest back in early June that was held at the Phoenician Golf Club. I finished third in my age bracket, which was 12 to 13 years old, which qualified me for the sub regional contest. That was held this past weekend at the Grayhawk Golf Club; there were 18 participants in my age group. I tied for sixth in this event. It was a great experience to perform in front of a large group of people and meet kids from all over Arizona and Nevada.

Q. What is it like to be St. Thomas the Apostle School’s Student Council as the Community Outreach Officer?

A. As Saint Thomas the Apostle’s Student Council Christian Outreach Officer, has been a great experience. With high expectations for me and our Student Council, to make sure STA’s 2017-2018 school year goes well at all times. My position is to provide the school and students with service opportunities, help with student council events throughout the year, and to bring creative ideas to weekly meetings.

Q. Tell us about your community outreach efforts?

A. I felt it was important to make an impact and give back to those in need. Back in June, I reached out to local non-profit organizations that were in need of volunteers. STA has partnered with St. Mary’s Food Bank to pack emergency food boxes every first Friday of each month. In addition, STA volunteers will help St. Vincent de Paul with their annual Thanksgiving meal service to those that are in need of a nice warm meal during the Thanksgiving holiday.

Q. What is the best thing about STA? What will be the one thing you miss the most about STA next year?

A. STA was the best thing that happened for my family and myself! The community of St. Thomas the Apostle is the greatest that anyone will ever experience! For the past nine years, I’ve been fortunate to be able to attend a great school with amazing teachers and staff! One thing that I will miss the most about STA is all the fun events throughout each school year and the experience and memories I will always have of STA!

George is an eighth grader at Saint Thomas the Apostle Catholic School.
