Tell us about your Moral Courage Essay submission?
I wrote about a lady from Sudan, named Fatima Ibrahim. In my eyes, she is a true inspiration and advocate for women’s rights. She worked hard, pursued her dream of women’s equality through every harsh word, and even went to jail for her cause.
Where did you get the inspiration to write this essay from?
I knew when I received the assignment I wanted to write about someone who was a women’s rights activist. I felt like I wanted to pick someone that I could connect with, on a personal level. I considered many individuals to write about, but she stood out when I was researching. She achieved many accolades, like being the first ever women in parliament in her country and even achieving women’s suffrage there too.
How did you feel to place 3rd place in this essay competition?
Obviously I would’ve liked to place higher, but honestly, I was shocked I even placed. I was thrilled. I really enjoyed going to the award ceremonies and meeting the other winners.
